Osasuna Calls 22 Players for Season Finale Against Getafe
Los Rojillos secure victory in stoppage time
Club Atlético Osasuna (7-4-10, 25 points) earned its first road win of the La Liga season, defeating Rayo Vallecano (5-7-9, 22 points) 3-1 at Estadio de Vallecas on Saturday afternoon. Los Rojillos went into halftime ahead after a goal from forward Ante Budimir. Rayo midfielder Pathé Ciss equalized in the second half, but stoppage-time goals from forward Víctor Muñoz and midfielder Asier Osambela sealed all three points for the visitors.
Osasuna asserted itself early, controlling much of the opening half. Around the 30th minute, defender Javi Galán nearly put the visitors ahead with a solo run, but goalkeeper Augusto Batalla made the save. Minutes later, Osasuna’s persistence paid off when Budimir pounced on a loose ball in the area and scored. The visitors continued to press, with midfielder Rubén García forcing a save from a free kick and Galán striking the rebound off the woodwork.
After the break, Osasuna pressed for a second goal. Muñoz, a constant threat, dribbled into the box but was again denied by Batalla. Rayo responded and leveled the score with a header from Ciss on a counterattack.
With the match tied, Osasuna pressed for a winner. Muñoz appeared to score, but the goal was disallowed for a foul by Budimir on defender Florian Lejeune. In stoppage time, Muñoz broke the deadlock, recovering the ball and weaving into the box before his shot deflected off defender Jozhua Vertouwd and beat Batalla. Osambela added a second in stoppage time, marking his first La Liga goal.
Osasuna will host Villarreal at El Sadar Stadium on Saturday, Jan. 31, in Week 22 of LaLiga EA Sports. Kickoff is set for 4:15 p.m. CET (3:15 p.m. GMT/10:15 a.m. ET).
